Permanent Internal Membrane Plus — A penetrating concrete treatment for waterproofing and strengthening concrete structures
PIM+ penetrates up to 2 mm into concrete, creating a permanent internal barrier against water infiltration while strengthening the concrete matrix.
Step 1: Surface preparation
- PIM+ can be applied to concrete as soon as you can walk on it without leaving marks (usually 24 hours after placement).
- Ensure the surface is clean and free from debris.
Step 2: Applying PIM+
- Use a Hudson-can-style hand-pump sprayer for even, soaking, application.
- Spray back and forth over the same area a minimum of four times, overlapping as you move up to the adjoining dry area.
- For vertical surfaces, apply from the bottom up.
- For horizontal surfaces, apply from the low point (i.e., near a drain) up to the high point.
- Apply until the surface stays wet and shiny for at least 10 seconds.
- Spread any puddles remaining after 30 seconds with a mop or squeegee.
Step 3: Post-application rinse
- Any excess PIM+ not spread out before it dries will form a 200 mesh silicate flour (talcum powder consistency).
- It’s recommended to hose off the surface before it air dries.
- This rinse won’t affect the treatment as the gels form inside the concrete within 15–20 seconds.
Step 4: Coverage
- Coverage varies with concrete porosity — exposed aggregate requires more product than troweled floors.
- Typical coverage: 100–225 square feet per gallon (average 150 sq ft/gallon).
Step 5: Curing time
- The gels formed within the 2 mm penetration depth need 72 hours to fully cure.
- During curing, the gels transform into non-soluble silicate/glass crystals.
- The treated surface can be exposed to rain or foot traffic while wet without harm.
Safety and handling
- PIM+ is water-based and not flammable.
- Wear rubber gloves and eye protection. PIM+ can cause serious eye damage; see the safety data sheet.
Cleanup
- Clean up hands and tools with soap and water.
