PIM+ Type S Application Manual
Permanent Internal Membrane Plus Type S - Application Guide
Step 1: Surface preparation
- For best results, due to the depth PIM+ Type S can penetrate, ensure the concrete has cured for at least 21 days.
- Ensure the surface is clean.
Step 2: Applying PIM+ Type S
- Use a hand-pump, Hudson can type sprayer for even, soaking, application.
- Spray back and forth over the same area a minimum 4 times, overlapping as you move up to the adjoining dry area.
- For vertical surfaces, apply from the bottom up.
- For horizontal surfaces, apply from the low point, i.e. near a drain) up to the high point.
- Apply until the surface stays wet for 5 to 10 seconds.
- Spread any puddles remaining after 30 seconds with a mop or squeegee.
Step 3: Post-application Rinse
- Any excess PIM+ Type S not spread out before it dries, will dry to a 200 mesh silicate flour, (the same size as talcum powder) and very difficult to broom off concrete.
- It is easier to hose off the surface treated before the surface air dries.
- This will not effect the PIM+ Type S treatment as the gels formed in 15 to 20 seconds are inside the concrete, not on the surface of the concrete.
Step 4: Coverage
- Coverage depends on the porosity of the concrete surface. i.e. exposed aggregate absorbs more product than machine troweled floors.
- Expect 100 to 250 square feet per gallon with the average about 150 square feet per gallon.
Step 5: Curing Time
- The gels formed inside the concrete up to the 1/4" to 1/2" depth PIM+ Type S penetrated requires a minimum 72 hours to cure, hydrating into non-soluble silicate/glass crystals in the internal voids previously filled with water-soluble alkali salt crystals.
- The PIM+ Type S treated surface, while wet, can be rained on, walked on, even animals can lick it without harm.
Environmental and Safety Concerns
- PIM+ Type S contains zero VOCs, i.e. it is safe for the environment, animals and plants.
- While safety goggles are not really required, rubber gloves are a good idea, as if your hands get wet, when the PIM+ Type S dries, the same 200-mesh silicate/glass crystals will cause irritation in the creases in your skin.
Clean up
- Clean up hands and tools with soap and water.
